Japan Mickey Cinderella's Castle At Disney World

Vista-United and Other DISNEY Related Cards:

Many people are not aware that Vista-United Telecommunications, Inc. was (until 2000) 51% owned by Walt Disney World, and 49% owned by Sprint. They handled the telecommunications needs for The Walt Disney Company worldwide, including television, radio, and teleconferencing; even within the Disney theme parks and ocean cruise ships. Vista-United was also a high quality, regulated telephone company that served as the Local Exchange Carrier (LEC) for some businesses and residences in Central Florida. Their expressed purpose was "Bringing the Disney Standard of Excellence to Telecommunications".
The dramatic interest in Vista-United telephone cards was nothing short of magical. As with other Disney related merchandise, these items have become some of the most appreciated in the world.
They were certainly the star performers in price appreciation of all telecards issued. Demand for the fourteen trial cards produced from August through December 1994 at an approximate issue price of $153.00 (there were two giveaway only cards) caused their value to increase more than tenfold. And the complete set of 15 cards issued in 1995 has increased in value 250% .
Though the first three Vista-United issues were available exclusively to the Disney Cast Members, all others were available to the public at the rather hidden Vista-United headquarters building located within the Disney World premises in Central Florida. For awhile, Disney even offered the new issues by mail-order.
Disney's first public phone card trial within the Magic Kingdom theme park began with the castle card pictured above, available in May, 1996 in two vending machines in Walt Disney World in Florida. In 1998 the trial was completed and the decision was for AT&T (a Disney Corporate Sponsor) to handle prepaid telecards within the theme parks. Vista-United served Disney very well from 1971, and on 2/28/2001 they were dissolved.
